The Reigning Queen of Grit and Grace: Bri Bagwell

Music Mavens of Texas | April 2026 Feature Artist

There are singers, and then there are forces of nature. Bri Bagwell is the latter.

With 15 number-one singles under her belt and a career spanning over fifteen years, Bri has become the benchmark for what it means to be a self-made woman in the Texas music scene. But if you think her journey was a paved highway to the top, you haven’t been listening closely. Her story is one of true grit, financial hurdles, and the courage to say "no" when a "yes" would mean shrinking herself.

It is our absolute honor to feature the incomparable Bri Bagwell as the Music Mavens of Texas Spotlight Artist for April 2026.

The Spark: From "On Tap" to the Top

The necessity of music didn't hit Bri in a practice room; it hit her in a smoky bar at fourteen years old. Playing original music with her brothers in their band On Tap, she realized early on that she wasn’t just a singer—she was an artist.

"I remember it so vividly," Bri recalls. "Like, 'this is freaking awesome, I’m hooked.'" By the time she was in college, she was playing Friday night happy hours, realizing that her passion for performing far outweighed her interest in accounting classes. After graduation, the decision to jump in "all-in" wasn't a risk—it was a no-brainer.

The Business of Being Bri

Behind the glamorous stage lights and the custom fringe is a woman who is as much a CEO as she is a songwriter. In an industry with no instruction manual, Bri’s superpower has been her ability to simply figure it out.

"I’ve encountered every type of hurdle in existence," she admits. From the massive financial undertaking of maintaining a touring RV and gear to cutting through the clutter of a digital world, Bri has built her empire on resilience. This struggle has created a profound bond with her fans. "I am nothing without the people who buy tickets and t-shirts. They are the reason I have anything at all."

Standing Her Ground: "I Ain't No Pushover"

Perhaps the most "Maven" moment of Bri’s career came when she discovered—via a Facebook post—that she had been moved to an early afternoon time slot at a festival where she was the only female on the bill. Despite being promised direct support for the headliner, the festival organizers sidelined her.

Bri’s response? She pulled from the lineup the day of the show.

"Being the only woman performing at 2 PM does not move us forward as female performers," she explains. "Not showing up was me putting my foot down... knowing that I’ve earned what I have. I’m nice, but I ain’t no pushover!" It’s a powerful reminder to every woman in this industry: standing your ground is often the only way to move the needle for everyone.

Finding the "Bagwell" Tone

Musically, Bri’s evolution has been a journey toward her own unique frequency. After years of mimicking heroes and navigating the pressures of Nashville publishing deals that demanded "hits," Bri found her true north with producer Rachel Loy.

For the first time, someone asked her: "What does Bri Bagwell want to actually say right now?" The result? The most personal music of her career. Her latest release, "Show Me," explores the maturity of love languages and physical touch—a subject her band jokingly calls "the sexy song," but one that resonates deeply with her audience's stage of life.

The Soul and the Support

A Maven is only as strong as the energy she protects. Bri is candid about the difference a supportive partnership makes. After surviving toxic relationships that left her "depleted and tired" for shows, she now stands beside a partner who supports her light rather than trying to dim it.

"I can rest and recharge and show up for my fans at 100%, instead of giving a lot of that to a vacuum of a man," she says. This emotional stability has allowed her to enter a "Celebration Chapter"—one that includes a massive 20-song greatest hits record and new anthems like "Act Your Age," a song about the right for women to age in music with the same grace as their male counterparts.

The Legacy: A Path for the Next Generation

When Bri looks at the Texas music scene today, she sees a landscape she helped change. There are more women on stages, in studios, and on the charts than there were fifteen years ago.

"I literally cry thinking about it," she shares. Her wisdom for the younger self? "You will feel like you should throw in the towel about eight million times... just take the next step. Success is not only if you are Lainey Wilson. You’re already successful by choosing to bring art into the world—that’s a bold move, babe."

Bri Bagwell isn't just writing songs; she’s writing a book (literally!) and a legacy. In an era of AI and robots, a Bri Bagwell show is a reminder of what is real: real stories, real grit, and a woman who really, truly loves the job of her dreams.
