When Did We All Become So Tired?

When Did We All Become So Tired?

I don't mean the kind of tired that a good night's sleep fixes.

I mean the kind of tired that settles into your bones.

The kind where you wake up exhausted, drink three cups of coffee, check your calendar, answer emails, make dinner, pay bills, worry about your kids, stress about your business, remember you forgot to fold the laundry... and before you know it, it's 11:30 p.m. and you're wondering where the day went.

When did we all become so tired?

Lately, I've realized that almost every conversation I have with women my age starts the same way.

"I'm just exhausted."

"I don't know why I'm so tired."

"I just can't seem to catch up."

It's become our normal.

But maybe it shouldn't be.

It's More Than Being Sleepy

There's a difference between needing sleep and feeling completely drained.

This kind of exhaustion is deeper.

It's mental.

It's emotional.

It's physical.

It's carrying the invisible weight of everyone else's needs while quietly pushing your own to the bottom of the list.

It's remembering every appointment, every birthday, every bill that's due, every grocery item you forgot, every text you haven't answered, every deadline, every doctor's appointment, every school event, every work project... all while pretending you've got everything under control.

No wonder we're tired.

We Didn't Just Get Older...

We Got Busier.

Somewhere between our twenties and our forties, life became a never-ending juggling act.

We're raising children—or helping raise grandchildren.

We're caring for aging parents.

We're building careers.

Some of us are running businesses.

Some are rebuilding after divorce.

Some are starting over completely.

Some are trying to figure out who they are after years of putting everyone else first.

And somehow we're expected to smile, look put together, answer emails within five minutes, keep the house clean, remember to drink enough water, work out, meal prep, and have a positive attitude.

Honestly?

That's a lot.

Nobody Warned Us About Hormones

Can we talk about hormones for a minute?

Because nobody prepared us for this.

One day you're fine.

The next day you're crying because someone looked at you funny.

You forget words you've known your entire life.

You walk into a room and completely forget why you're there.

Your anxiety shows up uninvited.

Your patience disappears.

Your sleep becomes a suggestion instead of a guarantee.

And suddenly you're wondering if you're losing your mind.

You're not.

For many women, hormonal changes during perimenopause and menopause can dramatically affect energy, mood, focus, and sleep. What feels like "just being tired" can actually be your body going through significant changes.

The more we talk about it, the less alone we'll feel.

Food Matters More Than We Think

I wish I could tell you coffee fixes everything.

Trust me—I tried.

What we eat has a bigger impact on our energy than most of us realize.

Sugar gives us a quick boost... followed by a crash.

Highly processed foods can leave us feeling sluggish.

Skipping meals because we're "too busy" only makes things worse.

No, eating healthy won't magically solve every problem.

But giving our bodies real fuel can make it a little easier to show up for life.

Survival Mode Has Changed Our Friendships

Have you noticed how friendships look different these days?

It's not because we stopped caring.

It's because everyone is surviving something.

Work.

Kids.

Marriage.

Divorce.

Health.

Parents.

Finances.

Life.

We're all carrying things that nobody else can see.

Sometimes months go by without talking to a friend, and then you finally catch up and realize they've been fighting battles you never knew about.

The beautiful part?

The friendships that survive this season often become the strongest ones.

They're no longer built on convenience.

They're built on grace.

Maybe We Don't Need to "Do More"

Maybe we need to stop believing we're supposed to do it all.

Maybe it's okay if the laundry waits until tomorrow.

Maybe ordering takeout doesn't make you a bad mom.

Maybe saying "no" isn't selfish.

Maybe asking for help isn't weakness.

Maybe resting is actually productive.

We've somehow convinced ourselves that being exhausted is proof we're working hard enough.

It's not.

It's a warning sign.

If You're Tired...

I hope you hear this.

You're not lazy.

You're not failing.

You're not falling behind.

You're carrying more than most people realize.

And if today all you managed to do was simply make it through the day...

That counts.

Some seasons aren't about thriving.

They're about surviving.

And there's no shame in that.

Let's Talk About It

One of the reasons we started The Midnight Maven Podcast was to have the conversations that so many women are already having quietly—in text messages, over coffee, or in the car after everyone else has gone to bed.

The conversations about burnout.

Hormones.

Business.

Motherhood.

Marriage.

Friendships.

Starting over.

Finding yourself again.

Laughing through the chaos.

Because the truth is, none of us are doing this perfectly.

We're all figuring it out as we go.

So if you've been wondering why you're so tired lately...

Know this:

You're not the only one.

And maybe the first step isn't pushing yourself harder.

Maybe it's giving yourself permission to breathe, to rest, and to remember that you don't have to carry everything alone.

Because sometimes the strongest thing we can do isn't keep going.

Sometimes it's simply admitting...

"I'm tired."

And that's okay.
